Chardonnay de Chardonnay - Cave de Lugny 2007 - $14

David: A white Burgundy from the vineyards around the town named Chardonnay. This is the Maconnaise appellation of Burgundy, around Macon. Like most burgundian chardonnays, this is unoaked. Color is straw. Nose is weak as is common with unoaked chards. Acidity is good. Apples and citrus flavors are evident with minerals. Finish is long with tingling acidity, somewhat bitter. Over all, quite nice. The Wine Bible says only that wines from Chardonnay are "passable at best". So maybe White Burgundy gets a lot better than this but I found it enjoyable. This was quite a bit better near room temperature than cold especially on the second day after a night in the fridge.

Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Cuvée Margot 2006 - $20

David: Olivier Leflaive is a major producer of spectacular white wines. This red burgundy is named after his daughter Margot. The pinot noir grapes are sourced from a variety of vineyards in the cote de Beaune region.

Bright garnet in color with a nose of cherry fruit and hints of earthiness. Vibrant and tart with cherry and strawberry fruit. Crisp fruit flavors meld into relaxed tannins with minerals on the finish. Better served on the cool side.

Jessica: Bright, true red. This wine has vibrant fruits with tart tones of cherry and strawberry. This wine lean towards the astringent side, but still manages to have some layers to it, with a slight caramel creamy backdrop. Very minor smokiness in the nose. I do not detect the tannins hardly at all. It is a very happy, delightful wine.
