David: Medium to dark purple. Nose of violets, red currant cranberry. Some herbs and maybe a little leather. Not oaked so is mostly fruit and floral scents. Medium bodied with high acidity. Decent tannins. Fruity finish.

Di Majo Norante Contado Aglianico 2005 - $12

David: 100% Aglianico from Molise Italy. Crimson in color. Nose is a bit subtle. Black current, crushed stone, oak, herbs and pomegranate. Delicious big black current, blackberry fruit on the palate with good acidity, a bit of spice. Juicy. Nicely balanced with good structure. Moderate tannins. Nice finish.

Jessica: Light nose; medium bodied. Fruity mix of dark and red fruits. Well balanced. Medium tannins. Good length. A very easy-going wine all around, would go well to wash down with pasta.

Terredora di Paolo Aglianico Campania 2007 - $20

David: The Aglianico grape was brought to Italy by the Greeks and became famous during the height of the Roman Empire and makes dark, tannic wines. This one is garnet in color with a nose of cedar, cherries and currents. Medium to light in body, with high acidity and firm but not overpowering tannins. Finishes a little quick with slight spiciness and perhaps mild earthy notes lingering.

Jessica: My first impression was an explosion of flavors in my mouth, followed by a mouth-puckering dryness. The scent of cedar is distinct, as are the dark fruits. The tannins are strong, but not overly bitter.
